Be the first to meet company recruiters at the College of Business’ Corporate Networking Night, 7 p.m. Wednesday,Jan. 25, at the Florida State University Alumni Center, 1030 W. Tennessee St. All full-time MBAs are expected to attend,and the event is open to all master’s students. Remember to RSVP.
Quick checklist: Wear a suit and your nametag. Bring business cards. Master’s students interested in obtaining professional business cardscan purchase them via the on-campus UPS Store. Create an account here to place an order, then click “Order Stationery Items.” The estimated cost is $45 per box of 200. To order a professional name tag, visit Awards 4U on E. Lafayette Street, or call 850-878-7187. The estimated cost is $12-$15 per tag.The deadline to order eitherin time for Corporate Networking Night is Wednesday, Jan. 18. Networking night is held after the Engineering Day career expo, 9 a.m.-3 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 24, at the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering ,2525 Pottsdamer St., and the night before the universitywide Seminole Futures career expo, 9a.m.-noon and 1-3 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 26, at the Leon County Civic Center, 505 W. Pensacola St.
Cheer on case-competition team
MBA students (from left) Eric Brennan, Ryan Drew, Jacob Kuta and Aylin McGinnis will represent the FSU College of Business at the Florida Intercollegiate Case Competition in Tampa on Feb. 10-12 and compete for a $10,000 grand prize. Faculty members Lise Diez-Arguelles, David Orozco, John Peloza and Doug Stevens served on the panel choosing this year’s team participants. To try out for the team, each student presented a 10-minute analysis of an assigned case for the faculty panel.
Attention, graduates
Friday, Jan. 20 is the final day to register for spring graduation. Students need to apply for graduation through the registrar’s graduation website, regardless of participation in graduation events.
The College of Business Master’s Hooding Ceremony is scheduled for6 p.m., Friday, April 27 at FSU’s Opperman Music Hall. The hooding ceremony will be followed by a short reception forgraduates, family and friends. Graduates needing more information should contact Melanie Yeager, director of graduate programs. Universitywide commencement will be at 2 p.m., Saturday, April 28, at the Leon County Civic Center, 505 W. Pensacola St. Both ceremonies require graduates to wear the cap and gown regalia, which can be ordered Jan. 30-Feb. 1 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Florida State Bookstore, 104 N. Woodward Ave. After these dates, you may place orders online until March 9 at http://www.herffjones.com/college/fsu.

Business Research classes begin
Sharpen your skills while earning a Certificate of Business Research this semester. The series, starting Wednesday, Jan. 18, is designed to teach students and faculty strategies and tactics of business research using the print and electronic resources unique to FSU. Led by Trip Wyckoff, business subject specialist at Strozier Library, the free classes are organized to cover topics of interest to a wide variety of users and offer practical application. Although not reflected in a student’s GPA, a certificate of achievement will be given to each student attending six of the eight classes and can be listed on your resume. Classes are held on Wednesdays and Thursdays and last just over an hour. For more information, visit the Certificate of Business Research website or email Wyckoff.
Get connected with Women in Business
Register today for the 4th Annual Women in Business Conference on Friday, Jan. 20. The one-day conference is titled “Getting Connected, Broadening Your Professional Horizons,” and focuses on what college students need to do now to prepare for their careers after graduation. This year’s keynote speaker is Cathy Griffin, president of The Griffin Network, an executive recruitment, business development, marketing and project management consulting firm in the Los Angeles area. Consider scholarship opportunity
African-American business students are encouraged to apply for a Jacki Tuckfield Memorial Graduate Business Scholarship. The application deadline has been extended until Feb. 3. More information and an application form can be found at www.jackituckfield.org. Approximately $45,000 in tuition dollars are available for the spring and summer terms, according to a news release.
Women in Accounting offer tax help
Women in Accounting (WiA) and Beta Alpha Psi are sponsoring a Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) site on campus this year through United Way and the IRS. VITA is a free tax service offered to those in the low- to mid-income range. The service begins Saturday and continues through April 14. The site is located at the Center for Global& Multicultural Engagement and will be open 4-9 p.m. Thursdays and 9:30a.m.-2:30 p.m. Saturdays. The site will be closed on Jan. 26, Jan. 28, March 3,March 10, April 4 and April 11. VITA is a great way to have your taxes prepared and/or to volunteer. FSU’s McNaughton to speak at Ethics Roundtable
Dr. David McNaughton, FSU professor of philosophy, will discuss “The Importance of Moral Reasoning” at 11:30a.m. Feb. 7 in Starry Conference Room, 214 Rovetta Business Building. The yearly series of ethics seminars is sponsored by the MBA Association and offered to all FSU students. The series addresses moral questions tackled by philosophers dating back to Plato and Aristotle and offers a forum for present-day issues such as plagiarism and fraud, conflict of interest and corporate responsibility. The goal is to promote insight into ethical responsibilities and ethical problem-solving .Guest lecturers come from diverse fields including business (corporate and family), law, philosophy, education and philanthropy. Master’s students who attend four MBAA-sponsored ethics seminar swill be awarded an ethics certificate upon graduation and will be recognized at the spring hooding ceremony. Nominate your mentor…
Nominations are being accepted for FSU’s 2012-2013 Outstanding Graduate Faculty Mentor Award. Sponsored annually by The Graduate School, this award honors faculty mentors whose dedication to graduate students and commitment to excellence in graduate education and mentoring have made a significant contribution to the quality of life and professional development of graduate students at Florida State University. The deadline for the submission of nominations to the academic dean's office is Feb. 1. For criteria, a nomination checklist and nomination form, visit The FSU Graduate School’s website.

The Program for Instructional Excellence is seeking nominations for awards recognizing graduate student teaching assistants for excellence in teaching.
Nominations will be accepted from faculty,staff and currently enrolled FSU undergraduate students for TAs that have made a significant contribution to the quality of teaching and learning at the College of Business. Nominations must be received on or before 5 p.m., Jan. 27. Winners will be recognized at the Celebration of Graduate Student Excellence on April 11 at 3:30 p.m. at the FSU Alumni Center. Kudos, colleagues
Dr. Rhoda Icerman, professor of accounting, has been named director of the Master of Accounting (MAcc) program. Icerman teaches Government and Not-for-Profit Accounting and Auditing, and Challenges in Professional Accounting. She is a past recipient of the Florida Institute of CPA’s Outstanding Educator Award.
Dr. Jeff Smith, assistant marketing professor, has been named director of the Master of Science in Marketing program. Smith teaches Operations Management in the MBA program.
Rex Caswell, online MBA student, has authored an article,“Unraveling Work Reactions: A Test of Three Models,” which has been accepted for publication in the academic journal Sociological Focus. Caswell, who holds a Ph.D. in sociology, is vice president of sales for specialized law at LexisNexis in Dayton, Ohio.
Justin Allender, MBA 2010, is a personal banker at JPMorganChase Bank in Orlando.
Bella Slavin, MBA 2011, has accepted a position as a material planning manager at Harris Corporation in Melbourne, Fla., where she leads material planning and procurement activities for advanced avionics programs.
