Starbucks executive to speak

Culver

John Culver, president of Starbucks Coffee International, will speak at 1:45 p.m. Wednesday, April 20, in HCB 102. Culver, an FSU College of Business alumnus, leads teams responsible for the overall management, business development and operations of Starbucks in all markets outside the U.S. The talk is part of the Charles A. Bruning Distinguished Speaker Series and is open to all students. For more information, visit the speaker series website. 

Study abroad this summer

This summer’s Global Business Seminar will journey to  Sydney, Australia on Aug. 6-14. The seminar's theme is "Green Practices and Business Performance in Australia," and students will undertake a service-learning project with an emphasis on corporate social responsibility. All on-campus and online master’s students are eligible to participate in this summer’s course. For deadlines and fees, visit the course website. Master’s students needing help registering for the course should contact their registrar: Jennifer Boyles (on-campus); Freddi Robinson (online MSM-RMI and MS-MIS) and Kim Burkes (online MBA).

Registration deadline approaching

Registration for the summer and fall semesters continues through April 22. On-campus schedules have been added to the “COB Graduate Student Organization” Blackboard site.  They can be found in the "Registration" link. On-campus students needing help should see Jennifer Boyles, assistant director of graduate programs, in 233 Rovetta Business Building. Online students needing help should contact online registrars Kim Burkes (MBA) and Freddi Robinson (MSM-RMI and MS-MIS). For more information, visit the registrar’s website.

Students discuss the ‘Real World’

The FSU MBA Early Career Board hosted its annual, “The Real World Post-MBA,” an honest discussion of what to expect in the workforce post-graduation April 6 in Starry Conference Room, 212 Rovetta. Early Career Board members making up this year’s panel were Dawn Elliott-Gunter, MBA 2006, business manager, Taylor County Health Department; Jennie Schnitker, MBA 2008, a management analyst with The Florida Trust with the Florida Association of Court Clerks; and Jerry Rumph, JD/MBA 2009, an attorney at Hayward & Grant, P.A.

MBA Association helps March of Dimes

The MBA Association held a fundraiser March 16 at the Hotel Duval, and raised more than $300 for the March of Dimes. Members of the MBA Association set up a table and sold cupcakes from Lucy & Leo’s Cupcakery during the hotel's Level 8 Little Black Dress night. MBAA member Stephanie Hampshire organized the event with help from MBAA Women in Business Chair Ayla Anderson and members Bella Slavin and Sarah Jane Burns.

Stevens

Dr. Doug Stevens has agreed to serve as the College of Business’ MBA Program Director.  His responsibilities will include providing oversight for the recruiting and admissions processes for all MBA programs, overseeing curriculum and policy issues and serving as the advisor for the student MBA Association. Stevens currently serves on the MBA Admissions Committee, the Master’s Policy Committee and teaches financial reporting and managerial control to online and on-campus MBAs.

Brandon Klein, MAcc 2007, is a senior at Morrison, Brown, Argiz & Farra, LLC in Miami.  . Klein was a teaching assistant while at FSU.

Hongmei Zhu, MAcc 2006, is a senior auditor at Ernst & Young in New York.

G. Ben Hensarling, MBA 2010, completed his legal studies as a visiting student at the Florida State University College of Law and received a law degree from the Shepard Broad Law Center at Nova Southeastern University in December. He recently passed the Florida Bar exam and plans to work as legal counsel in the areas of corporate litigation, business advisement and financial institution regulation.

Holly Spencer, MBA 2011, has accepted a position with Revenue Management Solutions in Tampa as an analyst within its McDonald's division. Spencer will be providing menu pricing solutions for franchisees based on market data. “I am very excited about this opportunity as it is a great blend of my hospitality experience and MBA coursework,” she said, “and that it is in Tampa, where my soon-to-be-husband is already employed.”

Caitlin Gribbin, MBA 2011, has accepted a position as a materials planner with Harris Corporation in Melbourne, FL.

Dustin Tremellen, MBA 2011, has accepted a position with Burger King Corporation in Miami as a corporate manager trainee.

Stephen Porter, MBA 2011, has accepted a position as a manager at Macy’s Inc. in Nashville.

Scott Alpizar, MBA 2011, has accepted a position in the finance management training program at CSX Corporation in Jacksonville.
