Globe-trotting students return to Florida State
College of Business graduate students recently returned from this spring's Global Business Seminar, which took them to Europe over spring break for an itinerary that included corporate and cultural visits to Strasbourg, France, and other nearby cities in France and Germany. This summer’s Global Business Seminar will take place Aug. 6-14 in Sydney, Australia. The seminar's theme is "Green Practices and Business Performance in Australia," and students will undertake a service-learning project with an emphasis on corporate social responsibility. All on-campus and online master’s students are eligible to participate in this summer’s trip. Registration has begun
Registration for the Summer 2011 and Fall 2011 semesters began on Monday and continues through April 22. On-campus schedules have been added to the COB Graduate Student Organization Blackboard site. They can be found in the "Registration" link. On-campus students needing help should see Jennifer Boyles, assistant director of graduate programs, in 233 Rovetta Business Building. Online students needing help should contact online registrars Kim Burkes (MBA) and Freddi Robinson (MSM-RMI and MS-MIS).
Scholarship deadline nearing
The MSM-RMI program departmental scholarship application for spring is due by 5 p.m. today. Applications have been e-mailed to students. For more information, contact Dr. Kathleen McCullough, program director.
Meet with Target representatives
The Target Corp. recruitment team will meet with interested students 5:30-7:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 23, in Starry Conference Room, 214 Rovetta Business Building. The theme of the discussion will be “leadership vs. management.” Dress for the event is business professional and dinner will be provided. See link for additional details.
Jennings Speaker Series continues
Gregory R. Michaud, senior vice president and head of real estate finance at ING Investment Management in Atlanta, will speak at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 30, in Starry Conference Room, 214 Rovetta Business Building. Michaud is responsible for the areas of new investment origination, portfolio management, legal services, mortgage loan servicing, and risk management for real estate finance related assets throughout the U.S., Canada, and Latin America for ING’s Insurance Companies. The talk, titled “Financing the Deal,” is part of the Evan D. Jennings Executive Speaker Series and is open to all students.
Kudos, colleagues
Dr. C.F. Sirmans, who has taught in the online MBA program, and a coauthor won the 2010 The Appraisal Journal’s Richard U. Ratcliff Award for their article “Office Property DCF Assumptions: Lessons from Two Decades of Investor Surveys” (Summer 2010). The Richard U. Ratcliff Award is presented for the best original article published in The AppraisalJournal that was written by an academic author. Articles are judged on the basis of pertinent appraisal interest, provocative thought, logical analysis, perceptive reasoning, clarity of presentation, and overall contribution to the literature of valuation.
Hongmei Zhu, MAcc 2006, is a senior auditor at Ernst & Young in New York.
Holly Hulen Beville, MBA 2009, has joined MultiState Associates Inc. in Alexandria, Va., as director of marketing. Beville is responsible for overall marketing strategy and branding at the state and local government relations firm. Most recently, Beville served as assistant marketing manager for PW Communications, where she focused on expanding new-media marketing techniques, new business development and managing client relations.
Holly Spencer, MBA 2011, will be speaking March 29 at the Southeastern Travel and Tourism Research Association’s annual conference in Destin, where she will present her paper, “The Impact of the BP Oil Spill in the Gulf of Mexico on the State of Florida’s Hotel Industry.”
