Entrepreneurial students unveil business ideas at Sophomore Business Expo
Florida State University students can get a glimpse of the creative – and potentially money-making – business ventures of their entrepreneurial peers at the College of Business’ Sophomore Student Business Expo from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 28.
This marks the third year students in the college's Sophomore Experience (ENT2010) class will take part in the expo, which is organized under the Young Entrepreneurship Society (Y.E.S) and sponsored by The Jim Moran Institute for Global Entrepreneurship. Nine student businesses will unveil and demonstrate their products and services under the portico of the Rovetta Business Annex.
The student firms range from HiremeTallahassee.com, a web-based company that connects local businesses in Tallahassee with FSU, Tallahassee Community College, and Florida A & M University students looking for jobs, to Earballs Music, a networking base that matches musicians and bands with venues and provides news on the music industry.
“I am always excited to see student concepts come to life,” said Dr. Jim Dever, assistant in entrepreneurship and the Sophomore Experience instructor. It is always exciting to show everyone at Florida State University what our can do when we provide them the resources they need in order to excel.”
Other student-run businesses include:
• Sincerely Yours Monogramming, a student-union based enterprise that personalizes embroidered designs for students;
• Garnet and Go Laundry, a pick-up and drop-off laundry services for students on and off campus;
• College Quickie, a student-to-student textbook selling and buying business, which cuts out the middle-man and helps students save and make money on their used textbooks;
• Zig Zag Cab, an eco-friendly pedicab service that transports students, faculty and visitors across campus;
• Spear-It Tutoring, a student-union based service that touts affordable and superior quality tutoring for subjects ranging from algebra to organic chemistry;
• Deflectr Technology is an official seller of Pong Research’s anti-radiation cell phone case, which is designed to deflect radiation away from a person’s body and reduce the chance of cancer; and
• TallyHype, the Event Website of Tallahassee, a one-stop website that displays a comprehensive listing of upcoming events in Florida’s capital city.
