College of Business Names Its First Recent Alumni Achievement Award Winner

Brian Murphy to be honored for professional achievement, service to College of Business, FSU

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Brian Murphy, a 2000 graduate of the Florida State University College of Business and president and CEO of ReliaQuest, an international consulting and recruiting firm based in Tampa, has been selected to receive the college’s first Recent Alumni Achievement Award.

The award, which will be presented to Murphy at the college’s Leadership and Scholarship Awards Dinner on Nov. 17, was established in 2011 by the College of Business Recent Alumni Board and honors College of Business alumni of the past 10 years who have made significant professional and personal achievements since graduation.

“Brian Murphy’s passion for Florida State University far exceeds any recent alumni that I’ve ever met,” said Christopher Ellett, also an FSU graduate and a senior manager at ReliaQuest who nominated Murphy for the award. “He not only provides guidance and leadership but he encourages ethical business and life decisions for all of his employees. Brian is well known throughout the greater Tampa community as someone who contributes to the greater good and truly cares about all.”

Following graduation from FSU, where he earned Bachelor of Science degrees in both accounting and finance, Murphy joined PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP, a worldwide professional services firm, where he was a management consultant. Throughout his career, he has held positions in consulting and accounting as an assistant corporate controller and managing director. Established in 2007, ReliaQuest is known internationally for its ability to find expert resources in very niche skill sets in communications, technology and engineering for some of the largest companies around the world.

Murphy is a frequently invited speaker whose audiences include students at some of the country’s largest universities and senior management at large corporations. His professional affiliations and community contributions are extensive. He is an Alumni Advisory Board member for the Electrical and Computer Engineering Program of the Florida A&M University-Florida State University College of Engineering and is a frequent guest speaker for the College of Business MBA Program. Murphy also is the vice president of career development for the Florida State University Chapter of Delta Tau Delta where he has served since his graduation in 2000.

In addition, he is a member of Vistage, a Worldwide CEO/Leadership Council; corporate sponsorship chair for the Tampa Chapter of the Armed Forces Communications Electronics Association; a member of the National Defense Industry Association and a member of the Association of the United States Army. In 2009, Murphy became the president and CEO of HGFS LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of ReliaQuest LLC that owns and operates www.HireGreeks.com, a nationwide career website for students and alumni in fraternities and sororities. Murphy currently lives in Tampa with his wife, Renee, also a graduate of FSU; their daughter, Devin; and their son, Parker.

While at FSU, he was president and treasurer of the Delta Tau Delta Fraternity, was an Interfraternity Council Judicial Board justice, and was co-chair of the Interfraternity Council’s President’s Council.

“This College of Business recognition is a real honor for me,” Murphy said. “FSU provided a solid foundation both inside and outside the classroom that has allowed me to succeed thus far in my career, and I’m grateful for that and proud to be affiliated with the college. I enjoy contributing as an alumnus and look forward to helping even more in the future. Go Noles.”

“We are extremely proud of Mr. Murphy,” said Caryn L. Beck-Dudley, dean of the College of Business. “Not only has he excelled in his professional career, he has given back to the college and the community. He is a well-rounded individual who we are pleased to have as an alumnus.”
