FSU President Eric Barron appoints COB professor as eminent scholar in risk management and insurance

Florida State University President Eric Barron has appointed the College of Business’ Patricia Born the Payne H. and Charlotte Hodges Midyette Eminent Scholar in Risk Management and Insurance. COB Dean Caryn Beck-Dudley announced the appointment Jan. 27.

“Dr. Born is well-deserving of this eminent scholar appointment,” President Barron said. “It’s through the generosity of donors like the Midyettes that we are able to attract and retain distinguished faculty, such as Dr. Born, and continue to deliver quality education to our students.”

Born, a member of the Department of Risk Management/Insurance, Real Estate and Legal Studies, teaches in the Risk Management/Insurance program (ranked No. 7 nationally and No. 6 among public institutions in 2011 by U.S. News & World Report) and  is director of the Center for Insurance Research.

Her research interests include insurance market performance, insurance regulation, products and medical professional liability, and management of catastrophic risks. Among the numerous publications in which Born’s articles have appeared are the Journal of Risk and Insurance, Journal of Legal Studies, Journal of Risk and Uncertainty, and Risk Management and Insurance Review.

A much-sought-after speaker, Born most recently completed a summer lecture tour that included universities in South Korea and China.
