The Jim Moran Institute to sponsor prestigious national award for women and minority entrepreneurs
Beginning in 2012 through 2014, The Jim Moran Institute for Global Entrepreneurship and the Florida State University College of Business will serve as lead sponsor of the United States Association for Small Business and Entrepreneurship’s Woman/Minority Entrepreneur of the Year Award.
The award recognizes “an individual woman or minority whose actions and achievements, within an entrepreneurial environment, exemplifies the true entrepreneurship and serves as a model to others.”
“Minority business owners and entrepreneurs are an important focus for Mrs. (Jan) Moran and The Jim Moran Foundation,” said Tim R. Holcomb, the Jim Moran Professor of Management and Entrepreneurship and The Jim Moran Institute’s executive director. “We are very excited about this sponsorship because USASBE and The Jim Moran Institute share a common commitment to fostering entrepreneurial attitudes and behaviors.”
USASBE is the largest independent, professional, academic organization in the world dedicated to advancing the discipline of entrepreneurship. The organization has nearly 1,000 members from universities and colleges, for-profit businesses, nonprofit organizations, and the public sector.
Earlier this year, USASBE selected The Jim Moran Institute and FSU College of Business’ ChempreneurTM Technology Commercialization Experience as runner-up for its prestigious Innovative Entrepreneurship Education Course Award. The award is presented annually to a university to recognize a “truly state-of-the-art entrepreneurship course, where the faculty member can demonstrate innovativeness, course effectiveness, student impact, and transferability.”
“USASBE is proud to partner with The Jim Moran Institute for Global Entrepreneurship and the Florida State University College of Business,” said Becky Gann, USASBE executive director. “Our organization continues to grow because of the great work of our members and their tireless dedication to excellence in entrepreneurship education. “
