Q. What is required to be admitted into the PGM program at Florida State University?

A. Once you are accepted at Florida State University, you will need to meet with the PGM Program Director, fill out an Incoming Student Application, submit a handicap verification (a Ghin card or letter from your golf pro) – must be a 12 handicap or less and pay the program fees. By the end of your sophomore year, you must have a 2.3 GPA or higher to be "officially" admitted into the major.

Q. Can I be a PGM major and still try out for the FSU Golf Team?

A. Yes. We currently have students who are on the Golf Team and are PGM majors.

Q. Do I start taking classes towards my PGM major in my first semester at FSU?

A. Yes. Although you are not "officially" admitted into the major until the end of your sophomore year, you will need to begin the PGM program your freshman year. Please refer to the PGM Degree Requirements section or the Policies & Procedures of this web site for course requirements.

Q. What degree will I graduate with?

A. You will graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree in Hospitality Administration.

Q. How do I get a good internship at a top-notch facility or course of my choice?

A. Florida State University has relationships with most of the highest rated and well-known private clubs and resorts nationwide! Our Internship Coordinator will assist you in securing the best internship for your needs.

Q. How will I meet other students in the PGM major?

A. You will be required to join and participate in the PGM Club in the start of your freshman year. The PGM Club will hold several tournaments, meetings and activities where you will meet and get to know your fellow PGM majors.

Q. How often will I get to play in tournaments?

A. The PGM Club elects a tournament director each year, who is responsible for setting up the tournament schedule each semester. There are several tournaments that you will have an opportunity to compete in, against your fellow PGM majors, as well as against PGM students from other schools.

Q. – Are there additional costs involved with the PGM program?

A. Yes, there are additional fees you will need to pay each year of the program that pay for your PGA books, testing and seminars; your golf course membership and range fees; a Florida State University personalized golf bag and shirt; PGM club dues; other administrative costs. Q. What types of career opportunities will I be qualified for upon graduation?

A. You will graduate Florida State University with immediate eligibility for election into PGA membership, as a Class A Golf Professional. Florida State University places 100% of its PGM graduates! The following is a brief list of some opportunities that you could pursue:

  • Assistant Golf Professional at a private club or resort
  • Teaching Professional
  • Manager In Training with a hotel/resort corporation
  • Golf Shop Manager
  • Management/Sales/Marketing at a golf products manufacturer
  • Golf Course Development / Real Estate

Q. What are the minimum requirements to be accepted at FSU?

A. The minimum requirements that the admissions office seeks from an applicant are:

GPA: 3.0
SAT: 500 Math, 500 Verbal
ACT: 21 Math, 21 Verbal, 22 Reading
