The Honorary Dr. Carl DeSantis
 Entrepreneur and businessman Carl DeSantis (center) received an honorary Doctor
of Humane Letters degree May 3, 1999. DeSantis, the 102nd recipient of an honorary
doctorate awarded by FSU and its predecess or institutions, was hooded by President
Sandy D'Alemberte (left) and Provost Larry Abele (right). Honorary doctorates
are conferred upon people for outstanding scholarly, creative or humane achievement
who have gained national or international recognition or made a significant contribution
to the Southeast or to FSU.
