Key Faculty Associates
William P. Anthony is Professor of Management, Carl DeSantis Professor of Business Administration, and Director of DeSantis Center for Executive Management Education at Florida State University. He has been on the faculty since 1970. Dr. Anthony is winner of the 1991 President's Continuing Education Award at Florida State. He is the third such recipient of the award in the school's history. He conducts seminars and workshops throughout the United States and other countries on a variety of management topics for managers in business, government, and not-for-profit organizations. Among his clients are Motorola, State Farm Insurance, Florida Power and Light, Clay Electric Corporation, U.S. Department of Defense, St. Joe Paper, Intervynals Corp., U.S. Department of Energy, Berg Pipe Corporation, various State of Florida agencies, and numerous not-for-profit organizations including the Florida Chamber of Commerce, Goodwill Industries, and Tallahassee Memorial Regional Medical Center. He speaks on Strategic Planning and Management, Competitive Analysis, Strategic Decision Making, Improving Productivity, and Team Based Management. In addition, he is an expert witness in cases involving negligent hire and retention, wrongful discharge, organization design, human resource policy, and employment discrimination. He has published sixteen books. Dr. Anthony has also published 80 articles and papers in a variety of journals and presents papers at both academic and professional association meetings on the above and other management topics. Dr. Anthony received his Ph.D. in Management and his MBA from Ohio State University. His BBA in Business is from Ohio University.
Jim Combs (Ph.D., Louisiana State University) is a Jim Moran Professor of strategic management and entrepreneurship, and Executive Director of the Jim Moran Institute for Global Entrepreneurship. His research interests include: (1) organizational form decisions, especially regarding franchising, (2) organizational governance and executive compensation, and (3) knowledge accumulation in organization-level research. In this latter context, he has published papers in Personnel Psychology and Business Horizons that explore the impact of human resource practices on firm performance. In addition, his research appears in outlets such as the Academy of Management Journal, Journal of Management, Strategic Management Journal, and Journal of Business Venturing. He is active in both the Academy of Management and the Southern Management Association. He also serves on the editorial boards of the Academy of Management Journal, Journal of Management, Cornell Hotel and Restaurant Administration Quarterly, and Entrepreneurship: Theory & Practice.
Ceasar Douglas (Ph.D.) is an Assistant Professor of Management at Florida State University. He received a Bachelor's degree in Biology from Illinois Wesleyan University, and a Masters degree in business administration from Grand Valley State (MI) University. His Ph.D. degree is in Management from the University of Mississippi. Prior to his academic career, Dr. Douglas worked 15 years as a manufacturing manager for Clorox Company, Sun Chemical, Hexcel Chemical, and Herman Miller. He has consulted with many business organizations on a range of issues. He speaks on Team Development, Strategic Planning, Outsourcing, Strategic Human Resource Management, and Diversity Management. Dr. Douglas teaches courses in Organizational Behavior and Strategic Management. Dr Douglas's research interests are in the areas of work team development, leadership, leader political skill, and temporary work force issues. He has published articles in Leadership Quarterly, Journal of Managerial Psychology, Journal of Management, and Supervision.
Gerald R. Ferris is the Francis Eppes Professor of Management and Professor of Psychology at FSU. Prior to accepting this chaired position, he held the Robert M. Hearin Chair of Business Administration, and was Professor of Management and Acting Associate Dean for Faculty and Research in the School of Business Administration at the University of Mississippi from 1999-2000. Before that, he served as Professor of Labor and Industrial Relations, of Business Administration, and of Psychology at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign from 1989-1999 and as the Director of the Center for HR Management at the University of Illinois, 1991-1996. Ferris received a Ph.D. in Business Administration from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He has research interests in the areas of interpersonal and political influence in organizations, performance evaluation, and strategic human resources management. Ferris is the author of over 100 articles published in such scholarly journals as the Journal of Applied Psychology, Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes, Personnel Psychology, and Academy of Management Review, and such applied journals as the Academy of Management Executive, Human Resource Management, Human Resource Planning, and Organizational Dynamics. Ferris serves as editor of the annual series, Research in Personnel and Human Resources Management. He has authored or edited a number of books including Handbook of Human Resource Management, Strategy and Human Resources Management, and Method & Analysis in Organizational Research. Ferris has consulted on a variety of HR topics with companies including ARCO, Borg-Warner, Eli Lilly, Motorola, and PPG. He has taught in management programs and lectured in a number of foreign countries and various U.S. universities.
Jack Fiorito earned his B.S. in Economics (with honors) and his M.A. and Ph.D. in Labor and Industrial Relations from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Prior to joining the FSU faculty in 1990, he served on the faculties at the U. of Illinois, Oklahoma State U., and the U. of Iowa. He also currently serves part-time on the faculty of the U. of Hertfordshire (England) as a Principal Research Fellow. He is presently an Associate Editor for the leading U.S. journal on employment relations, Industrial & Labor Relations Review and an Executive Board Member for the Labor and Employment Relations Association. He previously served as on the editorial boards of the Academy of Management Journal and the Journal of Management, and as a member of the Academy of Management's HR Division Executive Committee. At FSU, Jack currently teaches employment relations and research methods courses. He has previously taught courses on negotiation and conflict management, HR planning, compensation management, and public sector labor relations. Jack's research focuses on employee attitudes, HR policies, and labor unions. He has published numerous journal articles in the Academy of Management Journal, the Academy of Management Review, the Journal of Managerial Issues, the American Journal of Political Science, the Journal of Management, Industrial Relations, Industrial & Labor Relations Review, the Journal of Labor Research, and the Labor Studies Journal, and in other scholarly journals. He has also published several book chapters, and has co-edited two books, The State of the Unions (1991), and the Sage Handbook of Industrial Relations (2008).
Wayne A. Hochwarter is the Jim Moran Professor of Management at Florida State University. He received a Ph.D. in organizational Behavior from Florida State University, and has been on the faculties at Mississippi State University and the University of Alabama. His research interests include social influence processes in organizations, interpersonal effectiveness, accountability, and health consequences of stress at work. He has published articles in Administrative Science Quarterly, the Journal of Applied Psychology, the Journal of Management, Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes, and the Journal of Vocational Behavior on these topics.
Dr. Tim R. Holcomb is an assistant professor of Management at Florida State University. He earned his bachelor's degree in accounting and computer information systems and his master's degree in business administration (MBA) from the University of Louisiana at Monroe. He received his Ph.D. in strategic management (concentration in entrepreneurship) from Mays Business School at Texas A&M University. Dr. Holcomb's research interests include entrepreneurial opportunity identification and evaluation, new venture formation and growth, resource management, and leadership/corporate governance. His research appears in the Strategic Management Journal, Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice, Journal of Operations Management, Journal of Business Research, Frontiers of Entrepreneurship Research, Business Horizons, Advances in Strategic Management, Research in Multi-level Issues, and the Best Paper Proceedings of the Academy of Management. Dr. Holcomb has presented his work at the Annual Academy of Management Meeting, the Strategic Management Society Annual International Conference, the Babson College Entrepreneurship Research Conference, the Max Planck Ringberg Conference on Entrepreneurship, and the Academy of International Business among other venues. His work has earned awards from the Academy of Management, the Strategic Management Society, and Babson College, among others. He currently serves as the Secretary/Newsletter Editor on the Executive Committee of the Business Policy and Strategy Division for the Academy of Management. Prior to his academic career, Dr. Holcomb accumulated more than twenty years of entrepreneurial, executive management, and consulting experience that included work in about twenty-five countries abroad. Following graduate school, he spent thirteen years as a strategy consultant with Accenture Ltd. During his time at Accenture, he helped direct the company's airline industry practice, served on its management advisory council for the Americas region, and was responsible for work with two of the company's largest clients (PepsiCo and Nike), before leaving to pursue his entrepreneurial interests. In 1999, Dr. Holcomb co-founded Telcom Global Solutions Inc., a global telecommunications engineering and professional services firm, with Bear Stearns Merchant Banking and served as the company's president and chief operating officer for two years. The company was named to the nationwide "50 to Watch" list of the most successful new U.S. high tech ventures for 2000 and the following year became the third largest wireless engineering services firm in the world, reaching sales of $50 million by serving clients in ten countries with a staff of more than 250 professionals. Over his career, he has launched eight startups in technology, telecommunications, and professional services. Following the sale of Telcom Global Solutions to Flextronics International in late 2001, Dr. Holcomb helped direct Flextronics' network services division, an $800 million business that employed more than 6,500 professionals in eighteen countries, and served as a corporate senior vice president for the company for two years, before leaving to pursue his doctoral studies in 2003. Dr. Holcomb teaches courses in strategic management and entrepreneurship/new ventures and coordinates doctoral seminars in entrepreneurship and organizational theory. He has also offered keynote presentations at the Global EMS Conference on Outsourced Services Meeting (Stockholm), the European Outsourced Wireless Infrastructure Annual Conference (London), and the American Society for Travel Agents (ASTA) Annual Conference (Cairo), among other industry and technology conferences and symposiums. Dr. Holcomb frequently advises technology startups and service-based ventures and has consulted with a number of publicly-trade companies on a range of strategic, technology, and change management issues, including among others, A&P Supermarkets, Aerolíneas Argentinas, American Airlines, AT&T Wireless, British Airways, Ericsson, Frito-Lay, General Dynamics, General Mills, JCPenney, Lufthansa, Nike, Nokia Corporation, Nortel Networks, PepsiCo Inc., Pratt & Whitney, Scandinavian Airlines System (SAS), Telefónica, and Yum! Brands Inc. In 2005, Dr. Holcomb received the Golden Arrow Award, conferred annually by the University of Louisiana to an outstanding alumnus, and the school later named him to its Wall of Honor, recognizing lifetime professional achievements of university alumni.
Chad Van Iddekinge is an Assistant Professor of Management at Florida State University. Chad received a bachelor's degree in psychology from Calvin College and a Ph.D. in industrial and organizational psychology from Clemson University. Chad currently teaches a doctoral seminar in research design and undergraduate courses in staffing and human resources management. Chad's primary research interest is in staffing, with an emphasis on personnel selection. His work in selection focuses on various issues associated with how organizations use assessments such as employment interviews and personality tests to select and promote employees. Chad has presented his research findings at several national and international professional conferences. He has also published articles in scholarly journals such as the Journal of Applied Psychology and the International Journal of Selection and Assessment. His research on employment interviews has been recognized by grants and awards from several professional organizations. Prior to joining the faculty at FSU, Chad worked in industry as a human resources consultant. He has over seven years of combined experience as an external consultant, a staff consultant to management, and a human resources generalist. Chad has consulted with a variety of private, public, and military organizations. Most of his work involves assisting companies determine what knowledge, skills, and abilities are important to jobs and then developing and validating measures of those attributes for use in assessing job applicants and evaluating employee performance on the job.
Mark J. Martinko is the Bank of America Professor of Management at Florida State University and teaches in the areas of leadership, organizational behavior, management, and change. His research is concerned with the development and testing of models for explaining and understanding intrapersonal behavior in organizations. This interest has resulted in research focusing on the observation of leadership behaviors, impression management, and casual reasoning processes. Dr. Martinko has worked for many private and public sector organizations including: Western Electric Corporation; Omaha Public Power District; the State of Nebraska; National Cash Register; Sheller-Globe Corporation; U.S. Steel; Florida Department of Law Enforcement; Appalachee Community Mental Health; Guinness Group Sales, Ltd., Ireland; Wal-Mart; and Hewitt Corporation. He is the co-author or editor of seven books, including Thinking Like a Winner: A Guide to High Performance Leadership (2002) and Attribution Theory and Organizational Sciences: Theoretical and Empirical Contributions (2004). His research has been published in prestigious journals including: Academy of Management Review, Academy of Management Journal, Journal of Applied Psychology, Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes, Journal of Management Studies, Journal of Management, and Journal of Organizational Behavior. He served two terms on the editorial board of the Academy of Management Review. He currently serves on the editorial boards of the Journal of Organizational Behavior Management, Organizational Dynamics, the International Journal of Organizational Analysis, and the Journal of Leadership and Organizational Studies. He is a past president of the Southern Management Association and the Allied Southern Business Association.
Pamela L. Perrewé (Ph.D.) is the Haywood and Betty Taylor Eminent Scholar of Business Administration and Distinguished Research Professor at Florida State University. She received her Bachelor degree in Psychology from Purdue University and her Master and Ph.D. degrees in Management from the University of Nebraska. Dr. Perrewé primarily teaches courses in Organizational Behavior and Human Resource Management and has taught at the undergraduate, MBA, and Ph.D. levels. Dr. Perrewé has focused her research interests in the areas of job stress, burnout, coping, organizational politics, emotion and personality. Dr. Perrewé has published several books, approximately 20 book chapters and 90 journal articles in journals such as Academy of Management Journal, Journal of Management, Journal of Applied Psychology, Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes, Journal of Organizational Behavior, Journal of Vocational Behavior, Journal of Occupational Health Psychology and Human Relations. Further, she has presented over 100 research papers at academic and professional meetings. Dr. Perrewé served on the Board of Scientific Counselors of the National Institute for Occupational Safety (NIOSH), in conjunction with the National Center for Disease Control from 2004-2007. She serves as a member of the Editorial Review Board for a number of journals including Journal of Occupational Health Psychology. She is a member of the Society for Organizational Behavior and has fellow status with Southern Management Association, the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology, and the American Psychological Association. She is the lead editor of an annual series entitled, Research in Occupational Stress and Well Being published by Elsevier Science, Inc. Finally, she has co-authored the textbook, “Human Resource Management: A Strategic Approach” which is going into its 6th edition.
Annette L. Ranft is Associate Professor of Management in the College of Business at Florida State University. She received a Ph.D. in Strategic Management from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, an MS in Management from Georgia Tech, and a BS in Mathematics from Appalachian State University. Prior to joining the FSU faculty, Annette served on the faculties of Wake Forest University and West Virginia University. Prior to pursuing her Ph.D., she worked as a systems consultant with AT&T and client service manager for EDS. Her research interests are in the areas of knowledge management, strategic leadership, and acquisition integration. She has published work in such journals as Organization Science, Journal of Management, Journal of International Business Studies, Group and Organization Management, The Academy of Management Executive, and Organizational Dynamics.
Lee Stepina is Professor of Management and International Business at Florida State University. Dr. Stepina also directs FSU's Center for International Management Studies. Dr. Stepina received his Ph.D. from the University of Illinois and has been on FSU's faculty since 1981. Dr. Stepina teaches courses in Human Resource Management, Organizational Behavior, and International Management. He received University Teaching Awards in 1992-93, 1993-94, and 1996-97. Dr, Stepina also won the College of Business Advising Award in 1989-90. He serves as the advisor to the student chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM). Dr. Stepina has worked extensively with the Florida Legislature on the management and retention of information technology employees. In addition, he conducted an extensive review of The State's Civil Service Compensation Plan. In 1991-92, Dr. Stepina served as Staff Director of the Civil Service Reform Commission under Lieutenant Governor Buddy McKay. He has also been very active in the Florida Society for Human Resource Management serving as a member of the State Council and of the State Conference Planning Committee. Dr. Stepina also consults, conducts seminars and serves as an expert witness with a variety of organizations. Dr. Stepina's research interests include attraction and retention of information technology professionals, compensation, turnover, diversity, organizational justice and grievance systems, expatriate managers, international HRM and cross cultural management issues. His research has appeared in the Academy of Management Journal, the Journal of Organizational Behavior, Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes, the Industrial Relations and the Journal of Cross-Cultural Management among others. |
