NCSC Competition Update
Our Sales Program Ambassadors recently competed in the National Collegiate Sales Competition. Kristen Weeks placed fourth overall in the event, while our FSU Sales Team placed ninth. Congratulations to Kristen Weeks, Kailee Harshbarger, Matt Rosenfeld, Amanda Erpenbeck, Amelia Miller, Michael Sogluizzo, Natalie Hnatasko, Hannah Snyder, Jeff Taccetta, Evan Seretan, Professor Pat Pallentino, Dr. Chris Plouffe, and Dr. Leff Bonney for a job well done!

Sales and Marketing Day a Success
Our second annual Sales and Marketing Day was held February 3 and included a variety of events: breakfast for faculty and staff (sponsored by Waffle House and Target Copy), judging to select our representatives to this year's National Collegiate Sales Competition, a luncheon (sponsored by Applebee's), and an afternoon presentation by Ted Simendinger titled "Selling to Win in the U.S. and Europe: How to Succeed in a Declining Economy." Our panel of judges chose Kristen Weeks and Kailee Harshbarger to represent FSU at the 2008 NCSC competition.

Sales and Marketing Day concluded with a reception for students and advisory council members at the University Center Club, where Kia Autosport of Tallahassee presented a $10,000 donation to the sales program. Scholarships were also awarded to Ashley Pollard (First Command "Best in Sales Class" Scholarship), Mary Ellen White (Frito Lay "Best in Sales Class" Scholarship), and Alyssa Hayes, William Tate, and Mellisa Poulin (Kia Marketing Scholarships).

Marketing Major Requirements Revised
The Marketing Department recently revised the requirements for the Marketing major within the Marketing degree program. The total number of hours required for the major has been reduced from 21 to 18 hours. In addition, the list of acceptable electives has been expanded to include a Marketing Internship (MAR 4941), as well as up to one course outside of the College of Business. The new requirements for the Marketing major can be found here.

New Major in Professional Sales Added
The College of Business recently approved a new major in Professional Sales within the Marketing degree program. Once final university approvals have been obtained, the major should be in place by Fall 2009. The new major capitalizes on recent trends among recruiters who seek sales majors, and allows the sales program to become certified on a national level. The specific requirements for the major can be found here.

Multinational Business Major Suspended
The Marketing Department and the College of Business recently suspended the Multinational Business Operations major. Students interested in the major must apply and be accepted into the major no later than June 30, 2009. In its place, beginning Fall 2009, the College will offer an International Business theme within the university's Global Pathways Certificate. This change allows more business majors to gain valuable international exposure without the burden of having a double major. You can learn more about the Global Pathways Certificate here.

MBA Supply Chain Scholarships
The Marketing Department was recently awarded scholarship money from the ISM – Florida Gulf Coast Chapter for deserving MBA supply chain students. Lauren Turner was awarded the first scholarship in the fall. A second scholarship will be awarded this spring. Please see Dr. Larry Giunipero for further information.
