Get ready for your job search
Bring your laptops and resume drafts to this Wednesday’s “Get a Job” session, 12:30 p.m. in 108 Rovetta Building B. Myrna Hoover of the FSU Career Center will offer resume writing tips and show MBAs how to navigate and work the Seminole Link Web site. You will use this site to upload your resume and connect with company recruiters.

Name tags and business cards
Business cards and tags are now ordered through Shirley Wilson in Room 224B, Phone: 850-644-6999. We can get a reduced price for cards if we order as a group. You should provide Ms. Wilson with the name you want on the card, your email address, and a check at the time of order. This deadline is June 23, 2008.
Order your graduation gear
Friday is the deadline to order caps and gowns for August graduation. Order in person at the FSU Bookstore, which is located behind the Call Street Parking Garage. Online students only should call in orders: (850) 644-2072. The master’s regalia costs $63 plus tax to rent.
Register for the MBA Association
The MBA Association wants your input and your contact information, said Ryan Dietz, MBAA president. Regardless of whetherf you’ve paid your $40 in annual dues, go ahead and fill out the MBAA Registration Form (PDF). It also can be found in COB Graduate Student Organization in Blackboard. Completed forms should be given to Dietz or Chris Grunewald, MBAA treasurer.
Other ways to get involved in MBAA, Dietz said:- Sign up to participate in social, intramural, philanthropy or fund-raising committees in the master’s computer lab
- Attend the weekly socials after school and/or work; times and places to be announced.
- Contact Dietz if interested in bolstering association services for part-time MBAs. Dietz is seeking an MBAA liaison from each of the part-time cohorts graduating in 2009 and 2010.
- Lookout for an MBAA survey regarding T-shirt sales for online, part-time and full-time MBAs.
- Send Dietz a list of companies you’d like to see at Corporate Networking Night, Sept. 25.
Plan on Panama
The College of Business is developing an MBA International Experience to Panama in August. Details on cost and number of student participants are still being worked out for this first year. Give yourself a break
Work out your academic anxieties with a little sprint and shuffle. Sign up for the second round of intramural summer sports, which begin July 1. Possibilities include 4-on-4 flag football and tailgate games. Contact Rollo Knight to sign up for an MBAA team.
Congratulations, colleagues
Shawn Hoke, MBA 2008, accepted a compliance advisor post with Raymond James Financial in St. Petersburg. “After obtaining my Series 7 and 24 licenses. I will be traveling around the country to branch offices of Raymond James Financial Advisors where I will audit the branch offices to make sure they are complying with the rules set forth by FINRA (Financial Industry Regulatory Authority), the SEC (Securities and Exchange Commission), and the firm itself,” Hoke writes.
John Gilligan, MBA 2007, is now employed by URS Corporation in Jackson, Mississippi, running the state’s transportation management center. He is establishing operating procedures and managing the center’s people and processes.
“The center manages the flow of traffic on the state's highways through the use of closed-circuit television, digital message signs, video-detection systems, traffic signal systems, traffic alerts via e-mail/text message and a Web site,” Gilligan said. “A team of operators monitor the flow of traffic to manage incidents with the help of emergency responders, communicate with the media and public and work to reduce congestion … We'll have one statewide TMC and three regional TMCs.”
