NEW SURVEY RANKS MARKETING FACULTY AMONG NATION'S ELITE TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Florida State University marketing faculty in the College of Business have been ranked 5th in the nation for scholarly output, according to a new annual index of graduate programs throughout the United States that is reported in the January 12, 2007 issue of the Chronicle of Higher Education. "We have always suspected that our scholarly productivity was among the highest in the nation," states Michael Hartline, department chair and Charles A. Bruning Professor of Business Administration. "Excellence in research has always been a major thrust because it affects what we do in the classroom and in the business community."
Caryn Beck-Dudley, dean of the FSU College of Business, said FSU has long known that its marketing faculty was one of the best in the country - "and this independent ranking provides further evidence of our growing prominence." The Faculty Scholarly Productivity Index, partly financed by the State University of New York at Stony Brook and produced by Academic Analytics, a for-profit company, rates faculty members' scholarly productivity at nearly 7,300 doctoral programs in 304 academic institutions around the United States. The rankings are based on objective assessments of faculty productivity, including faculty publication counts, citations of publications, federal grant dollars awarded, and honors and awards. They do not consider reputation, but focus solely on the assessment of faculty productivity. The marketing faculty members who are responsible for the high ranking include: Michael Brady, Associate Professor; John Brennan, Associate in Marketing; Michael Brusco, Synovus Professor of Marketing; Joe Cronin, Carl DeSantis Professor of Business Administration; Peter Darke, Associate Professor; Phillip Downs, Professor; Leisa Flynn, Professor; Larry Giunipero, Professor and I.S.M. Professor of Supply Management; Ron Goldsmith, Richard M. Baker Professor of Marketing; Michael Hartline, Department Chair and Charles A. Bruning Professor of Business Administration; Charlie Hofacker, Professor; Daekwan Kim, Assistant Professor; Gary Knight, Associate Professor; John Larsen, Assistant in Marketing; Ruby (Pui Wan) Lee, Assistant Professor; Pat Pallentino, Assistant in Marketing; Mike Showalter, Professor; and Jeffrey Smith, Assistant Professor. Founded in 1950, the FSU College of Business is one of the youngest business schools and is recognized as one of the nation's 10 largest business schools. The college's undergraduate program is ranked in the Top 25 by both U.S. News & World Report and BusinessWeek. It is FSU's second largest academic unit on campus with an enrollment of more than 6,300 students, and boasts a distinguished faculty of 115, including a Francis Eppes professor, three university named professors, seven Eminent Scholars and 30 endowed professorships.
