William G. Smith, Jr. Charles A. Bruning Distinguished Speaker A native of Tallahassee, William G. "Bill" Smith, Jr. is chair, president and chief executive officer of Capital City Bank Group, Inc. and Chairman of the Board of Capital City Bank. He began his career at Capital City Bank in 1978. Smith worked in numerous capacities before being elected president and chief executive officer of Capital City Bank Group Inc., in January 1989. He was elected chair in 2003 Mr. Smith is a member of the board of directors for several organizations including Capital City Bank Group, Florida State University Athletic Board, Darlington School, Southern Company, City of Tallahassee Utility Commission; and Florida State University Foundation, where he serves as chair. Former professional associations include: Board of Directors, Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta; Board of Directors, Jacksonville Branch of the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta; Federal Advisory Council representative for the Sixth District of the Federal Reserve System; Board of Directors, Southeast Community Hospital Board; President, Florida Bankers Association; Chair, Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare; Chair, Tallahassee Area Chamber of Commerce; Chair, Tallahassee Area Chamber of Commerce Economic Development Council; National President, Florida State University Alumni Association; Chair, City of Tallahassee Citizens Advisory Committee – Blueprint 2000; and Citizens Review Committee, City of Tallahassee – City Utilities. Mr. Smith attended the Darlington School in Rome, Georgia and graduated in 1972 with the Faculty Medal for General Excellence. He received the Bachelor of Science in 1976 from the College of Business at Florida State University. |
