Sample Letter for Student to Send to Employer

The following is a suggested format for the student's letter to a potential employer:

Dear Name:

First paragraph: Introduce yourself and include pertinent information about your job skills and how they match the needs of the position for which you are applying. Example: I am a junior majoring in real estate at Florida State University, etc.

Second and Third Paragraphs: Give a more complete explanation of the types of work you have done or are doing. Address skills you have been developing while working, emphasizing directly relevant skills (e.g. familiarity with computer programs used specifically in real estate) and indirectly relevant skills (e.g. computer skills in general, writing ability, ability to work in a team, meet deadlines, etc.). You may also mention relevant courses you have taken.

Final paragraph: Summarize the things you have said about yourself.
