SATISFYING THE LIBERAL STUDIES REQUIREMENTS
FOR BUSINESS STUDENTS
AREA I. Mathematics
Business students must complete (or exempt through examination) 9 semester hours in mathematics and statistic courses. Therefore, you will automatically satisfy the mathematics requirement. The following courses must be completed.
- MAC 1105 - College Algebra (3);
- MAC 2233 - Calculus for Business and Non-physical Sciences (3); and
- STA 2023 - Fundamental Business Statistics (3).
Each of the courses above must be completed with a grade of "C-" or better.
AREA II. English
You must complete ENC 1101 and any second English course from the approved list for Liberal Studies English credit. Most students choose to take ENC 1101 and ENC 1102. Each English course must be completed with a grade of "C-" or better.
AREA III. History/Social Science
Business students may complete 9-12 semester hours (3 or 4 courses).
- You must complete one Liberal Studies History Course.
- You must complete the two economics courses below:
ECO 2013 Principles of Macroeconomics (3)
ECO 2023 Principles of Microeconomics (3)
It is recommended that you choose to complete one additional History/Social Science course.
AREA IV. Humanities/Fine Arts
There are no specific Humanities/Fine Arts courses that business students must take. Therefore, you may take any courses that satisfy the Liberal Studies Humanities/Fine Arts Requirements. At least one course must be a literature course, designated with an asterisk. You may complete 6-9 semester hours (2 or 3 courses). You should complete 2 courses in the Humanities/Fine Arts area if you choose to complete 4 courses in the History/Social Science area. If you choose to complete only 3 courses in the History/Social Science area, you must complete 3 courses in the Humanities/Fine Arts area.
AREA V. Natural Science
There are no specific Natural Science courses that business students must take. Therefore, you may take any courses that satisfy the Liberal Studies Natural Science Requirements. You must complete 7 semester hours, two courses and a laboratory that accompanies one of the courses. Note that some of the natural science courses are intended primarily for students majoring in the sciences. It is recommended that you do not choose to take these courses designed for science majors (unless you are considering a double major in the sciences or the possibility of changing your major to a science discipline).
