IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR STUDENTS
INTENDING TO MAJOR IN BUSINESS

Who is my Advisor? All students intending to major in business receive advising from the College of Business Undergraduate Programs Office and Advising Center, Room 328 RBB, 644-3892, ugprog@cob.fsu.edu. You will not be assigned to a specific advisor. You may see any advisor in the Advising Center. Walk-in advising times are available each day, Monday through Friday. To avoid waiting in line, don't wait until the day before registration starts to see an advisor regarding your next semester schedule.

Who is my Academic Dean? Prior to completing 52 semester hours, students are assigned to the Division of Undergraduate Studies. Your Academic Dean during this period (generally your first two years) is the Dean of Undergraduate Studies. During this period, you must have the permission of the Office of Undergraduate Studies (located in the University Center, Room A3400, 644-2451) in order to: (a) Receive permission to take an underload (less than 12 hours) or an overload (more than 18 hours); (b) Request a late course drop; or (c) Withdraw from the University.

Admission to Your Business Major. The major programs in the College of Business are designated as limited access programs. To be admitted to one of these programs you must meet the admission requirements in effect at the time of application. All students with the lower division business intent major code will automatically be considered for admission to the College of Business after they have completed 52 semester hours. No separate admission application is required. Therefore, it is important to make sure that your lower division major code is business intent. You may check your major code in the College of Business Advising Center.

Changing Your Intended Major. If, prior to completing 52 semester hours, you decide that you no longer intend to major in Business, you should go to the University Center, Room A3200 to change your intended major. This change must be made so that you will receive the appropriate academic advising for your new intended major.

Is a Minor Required for Business Students? Students majoring in Business are not required to complete a minor.

Foreign Language. Students planning to major in Multinational/International Business Operations are required to complete a foreign language through the 2200 level. Other business majors are not required to complete any foreign language courses.

Attendance at the First Class Meeting. FSU requires attendance at the first day of class each term in order to maintain enrollment in a course. Students not attending the first class meeting in the term will be dropped from the course. Therefore, if you must be absent the first day a class meets, be sure to notify the Department offering the course prior to the first day of class to make sure you are not dropped from the class.

Dropping and Adding Courses. You may drop and add courses through the end of the fourth day of classes each semester and have your fees adjusted. You will be charged for all courses on your schedule at the end of the fourth day of classes. Until the end of the seventh week of classes, you may drop a class, and the course will not appear on your transcript; but you will be charged for the course. (You must have permission from your Academic Dean to drop below 12 hours). You are not allowed to drop freshman English or required preparatory classes. Between the eighth and twelfth week of classes, you may request permission from your Academic Dean (the Dean of Undergraduate Studies) for a "Late Course Drop." A cumulative maximum of two "Late Course Drops" may be granted during your first 60 hours of college credit. Course fees will remain. Courses dropped during this period will appear on your transcript with the notation "W".
